Product approved for incidental food contact - customers needing this approval now have a new source for lubricant preservative
PITTSBURGH - September 8, 2008
LANXESS Corporation's Material Protection Products (MPP) business unit received Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registration, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval, and National Science Foundation (NSF) certification for the use of active ingredient p-Chloro-m-cresol (PCMC) in industrial lubricants. LANXESS will market this biocide under the brand name PREVENTOL® CMK Preservative; it is effective against bacteria, yeast and mold fungi. PREVENTOL® CMK Preservative is also used as a preservative in many industrial water based applications, such as adhesives, joint cements, emulsions, metalworking fluids and cutting oils. PCMC, the active ingredient of PREVENTOL® CMK Preservative, is also approved by the FDA for use as a preservative component of adhesives intended for use in packaging, transporting or holding food; and as a preservative in the manufacture of animal glue intended for use in packing, processing, preparing, treating, packaging, transporting, or holding food.
