LANXESS steps up material protection activities in Asia

New lab in China, service capacities for premium products to be expanded in Singapore

Leverkusen - Specialty chemicals company LANXESS will open a microbiology test lab in Wuxi, China, early next year to strengthen its competitiveness in the biocides business in Asia. Managed by the Material Protection Products business unit (MPP), the new lab will help customers to select the right biocidal products and advise them on any related technical issues and problems.

In many Asian countries, the rapid growth of the domestic economy is going hand in hand with a rising demand for modern, environmentally compatible material protection products. "In Asia and specifically China, suppliers who want to participate actively in the growth of this dynamic economic region must be able to offer customers innovative technical solutions flexibly and locally," says LANXESS employee Michael Gerle, head of marketing for industrial biocides in the region. "Therefore, opening up the lab in Wuxi is an important step when it comes to positioning LANXESS as a leading supplier in China."

The Material Protection Products business unit further plans in 2008 to expand its service center in Singapore to enable it to respond even more flexibly to customer requests. Apart from standard analytical methods, new technical services include in particular tests for determining the effectiveness of biocides in coatings.

The beverage industry too will benefit from the expansion in Singapore. Customers in future will have access to a regional technical service center. Says Ian Wood, regional head of the Beverage Technologies business at MPP: "To accompany the growth of Velcorin® in the Asia-Pacific region, we must offer our customers rapid and targeted technical service. The new facilities in Singapore will make support of this kind possible and underpin our marketing activities in Asia." Velcorin® is a proven stabilizing agent for the sterile fillig of non-alcoholic beverages and wine.

The Material Protection Products business unit is a leading manufacturer and supplier of biocidal active ingredients and formulations for use in wood preservatives, industrial applications, disinfectants and preservatives. Detailed information can be found under www.ProtectedbyPreventol.com.

LANXESS is a leader in specialty chemicals with 2006 sales of EUR 6.94 billion and more than 16,000 employees in 21 countries. The company is represented at 47 production sites worldwide. The core business of LANXESS is the development, manufacture and sale of specialty chemicals, plastics, rubber and intermediates.

LANXESS Corporation attends Association of Water Technologies 2007 Annual Convention & Exposition, Nov. 7 – 10, 2007

Two business units showcasing diverse water treatment technologies in booth 234

LANXESS Corporation will exhibit its water treatment technologies in booth 234 at the Association of Water Technologies 2007 Annual Convention & Exposition in Colorado Springs, Colo., Nov. 7 - 10, 2007. Following the Expo theme "Reaching New Heights: Exploring Issues in Water Treatment," two business units will showcase products that offer solutions to water treatment and corrosion issues.

LANXESS' Material Protection Products (MPP) business unit will exhibit its comprehensive portfolio of corrosion inhibitors. PREVENTOL® CI 7-100 and PREVENTOL® BZT corrosion inhibitors form a very thin, stable protective film on the metal surface, protecting copper and copper alloys, as well as steel, cast iron, cadmium, silver, and nickel alloys, under certain conditions. They also reduce the corrosive effect of copper on various metals and, when combined with other corrosion inhibitors, manufacturers see increased effectiveness. In addition, PREVENTOL® CI 7-100 and PREVENTOL® BZT corrosion inhibitors slow the decomposition of oil, alcohol, and glycol fluids generated by copper ion catalyses.

"PREVENTOL® CI 7-100 corrosion inhibitor offers optimal cost-efficiency, giving our customers a distinct advantage," said Udo Reigber, head of MPP Americas. "The product is chemically adsorbed and, therefore, it's very firmly bonded to the metal, ensuring long-lasting protection."

PREVENTOL® CI 7-100 corrosion inhibitor plays an active role in a variety of applications, including open cooling and closed circulating water systems, as well as antifreeze, engine coolants, dishwasher detergents, metalworking fluids, disinfectants, and protective coatings. PREVENTOL® BZT corrosion inhibitor is recommended for use in cooling water, hydraulic fluids, glycol-based antifreeze concentrates, metalworking fluids, acid cleaning agents and disinfectants.

As part of MPP's corrosion inhibitor portfolio, PREVENTOL® CI 7-50 is an aqueous solution of tolyltriazole sodium salt (approximately 50 percent). It protects copper, bronze and brass, and prevents the dissolution of copper and the transfer of copper ions in cooling water. Additionally, PREVENTOL® CI 7-50 corrosion inhibitor suppresses the corrosion-promoting influence of copper ions on various metals and prevents catalytic degradation of rubber hose or rubber seals in circulating water cooling systems. PREVENTOL® CI 7-50 corrosion inhibitor is primarily used in cooling water, glycol-based antifreeze concentrates, hydraulic fluids, metalworking fluid and cleaning agents.

LANXESS' Functional Chemicals (FCC) business unit is showcasing its BAYHIBIT® AM scale and corrosion inhibitor. As an aqueous solution for water treatment and cleaning agents, BAYHIBIT® AM applications include scale inhibition and crystal distortion, corrosion inhibition, and dispersion. The product is primarily used in cooling water circuits and process water systems. BAYHIBIT® AM solution also performs well as a corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel. This product has outstanding solubility and can be mixed with strong acid or alkali solutions.

FCC is also exhibiting its line of BAYPURE® complexing and dispersing agents. With the BAYPURE® product range, LANXESS offers its customers solutions to help them use water more efficiently and responsibly. BAYPURE® dispersing agents and scale inhibitors use ecologically compatible, biodegradable functional polymers and chelants that play a powerful role in water conditioning processes, including complexing, dispersing and crystallization control. BAYPURE agents are especially effective in water cooling circuits and waste water treatment.

The product line includes BAYPURE® DS 100, BAYPURE® DSP and BAYPURE® CX 100. BAYPURE® DS 100 can proactively prevent sediment from forming. BAYPURE® DSP breaks down existing deposits by forming free polyaspartic acid. It also allows auto-dosage because of the slow dissolving process. BAYPURE® CX 100 is used in certain cases for cleaning plant components in the waste water segment.

Velcorin® at BRAU 2007, November 14 to 116, Nuremberg, Hall 1, Booth 235

Fill it up!

Velcorin® technology for the beverage industry from a single source

Leverkusen – At Brau Beviale 2007, the European trade fair for the beverage industry taking place from November 14 to 16 in Nuremberg, Germany, LANXESS will be presenting its proven Velcorin® technology. The specialty chemicals company plans not only to introduce its Velcorin® stabilizing agent, but also for the first time to offer metering systems for the sterile filling of non-alcoholic beverages and wine.

As of January 1, 2008, LANXESS will take over the industrial beverage metering equipment business of R&M E.M.S. GmbH, a subsidiary of Bilfinger Berger Industrial Services AG. This step puts the LANXESS Material Protection Products business unit in a position to supply the beverage industry with a complete range of products and the accompanying metering systems from a single source, not to mention its customer-oriented service. In the future, the metering systems will be marketed under the trade name "Velcorin® DT". They fulfill all technical requirements and are easy to operate. In industrial filling processes, the high-precision, durable pumps provide for the necessary distribution of Velcorin® in a beverage.

The LANXESS stabilizing agent effectively protects soft drinks and wine against damaging microorganisms, without adversely affecting its flavor, aroma or color. Velcorin® is added to the finished beverage immediately prior to filling. It instantly takes action against microorganisms and then decomposes entirely into negligible amounts of methanol and carbon dioxide, which are natural components of fruit juices and fruit-based beverages.

The Material Protection Products business unit is a leading manufacturer and supplier of biocidal active ingredients and formulations for use in wood preservatives, industrial applications, disinfectants and preservatives. Detailed information can be found under www.protectedbypreventol.com.
